Fretfully, Faustina looked out the window of her small home in Lima, Peru. A widow, she supported herself and her disabled son by collecting and recycling landfill plastic. Then coronavirus began to strike Lima. She was scared to leave her home. She and her son were running out of food.

Thankfully Peruvian Cru staff members were in contact with Unto, the humanitarian aid arm of Cru. This relationship has developed over the years and has included shipments of containers filled with seeds, clothing and other supplies from the US.

A 2018 container contained hundreds of unused Warrior Dash t-shirts which the Cru staff distributed to the needy in Lima—including Faustina.

This spring, an Unto agricultural trip to Peru was cancelled because of coronavirus. But the agricultural training continued via Zoom video conference. US based Unto staff members were able to make garden planting recommendations based on freely available soil survey maps for Peru.

The Peruvian Cru staff immediately put what they learned into practice, planting backyard gardens around Lima and providing other much needed supplies and relational care. It was while planting gardens that the Cru staff learned of Faustina’s dilemma and provided help.
