I thought the way I was living was normal, but it’s NOT!

God is changing the lives of people around the world because of your partnership with us. Thank you! Here is one thing God has done because of you:

campfireEmily, a Cru staff member in Southeast Ohio, sat behind the large, barn-like building known as the ARC, shivering slightly in the mid-October chill. The faint sounds of worship music wafted through an open door nearby. To her right sat Chloe, a freshman at Ohio University. Tears ran down Chloe’s face as she smoothed a crumpled piece of paper in her lap, thinking hard about what she wanted to say.

Emily met Chloe at the beginning of the semester, but after that initial meeting had not seen her at any Cru events. The lure of “college life” had caught her. To Emily’s surprise, Chloe attended the Cru Fall Retreat. Emily’s invitation, which she thought had been rejected, was accepted!

On Saturday night, Chloe grabbed Emily’s arm and asked if they could talk privately – right now.

So, there they sat as Chloe spilled out what had happened in her life recently. She showed Emily the paper from the Women’s Event, which had occurred earlier that day. It listed a range of statements such as “I’ve cried myself to sleep,” “I’ve regretted how much I’ve drank,” “I’ve gossiped about another woman behind her back,” etc… During the activity, the women checked off statements that were true for them. Their responses were then shared anonymously with the group. The intention was to show each woman that she was not alone in her struggles and sins – but for Chloe, it had a different effect.

“I checked almost ALL of this. I thought the way I was living was normal, but it’s NOT! I have to change.” She looked at Emily, choking back tears. “I can’t keep doing this. I want to start living for Christ again…” The unspoken question of “What do I do now?” hung heavy in the air.

“Chloe,” Emily said, “Let’s pray! Let’s not let this moment get away! Let’s pray right now!” Emily couldn’t hold back the excitement in her voice as she watched a student she had prayed for by name experiencing the moment of life change Emily had begged the Lord to create.

Continuing Your Impact…

This is one way we get to be a part of changing lives for Christ all over the world. Our work at Cru’s World Headquarters enables Cru missionaries in over 190 countries around the world to reach those around them. As missionaries like Emily minister to others, they are freed from the burden of having to navigate complex financial systems. Instead, they can focus on people like Chloe. What happened on a retreat in southern Ohio this past fall is happening all over the world because of your continued generosity and prayers.

Thank you! Our deep appreciation for you is unwavering. We are grateful to Jesus for you!

Kim Trains New Cru Missionaries

kim-lynn-coaching

Kim and Lynn help a new Cru staff member with her budget.

Kim recently joined Cru’s Stewardship Team. We want our missionaries to be equipped for a lifetime of service. One aspect of this is being good stewards of their financial resources.

In October, Kim attended a conference for new Cru staff. She helped them prepare personal spending plans. She encouraged them to pay off any debt and to avoid it in the future. Since many of them of were just out of college, they even talked about how to buy a car.

These new missionaries are headed all over the world to tell others about Christ. Kim spent time with some going to Asia, to North Carolina, to work with the Jesus Film, to South Dakota,… And there were many others.

But the starting point for all of it is knowing that any and all resources that come our way belong to God. We are just managing it for him for a time.

Thank you for helping to make it possible for these new Cru staff to learn principles that will keep them in ministry for a lifetime. We are grateful for you!

Prayer Requests:

  • That new Cru staff members internalize and apply principles of biblical financial stewardship.
  • That our new missionaries teach others and help them to be good stewards of God’s money.
  • For us as we also seek to pass these things on to our boys! And apply them ourselves!

Students Arrive, Cru Staff Welcome

survey

One way Cru meets students is through questionnaires. These can quickly identify students interested in Jesus.

College students around the world are settling into new dorm rooms and adjusting to new classes, trying to make friends and find their way. Cru teams helped them move in, lugging refrigerators and stacks of clothing up flights of stairs.

This is not the time for our field staff to be hassling with ministry finances and struggling through forms. And they are not! Nate and others who work behind the scenes are freeing them up so they can be on campus with students.

Here is some of what is happening on campuses around the US:

Justin returned to Morehead State University (Kentucky) for his senior year. In his previous years at school, he knew all the proper Christian words. However, this summer, while helping with a Cru mission trip to reach athletes in New Zealand, he realized he was looking for satisfaction in his pursuit of coaching. After coming to this realization, he surrendered His life to Jesus.

Justin returned to campus finding satisfaction in knowing Jesus. His desire is to have an impact on the Morehead basketball team. His words now match his actions.

On South Carolina campuses, students are considering joining Cru small groups. One freshman said: “I’ve seen what the other guys on my hall are getting into, and I don’t want that to be me. I want to stay close to God in college, and I know the decisions I make at the beginning of the year are important.”

In Ohio, a Cru staff member met Cody. He was raised in church, but left as a teen when he got “fed up.” As they talked, despite his background, it was clear that Cody’s heart was open. “… I want to trust people again, and I want to trust God,” Cody said. He wasn’t ready to trust Jesus yet, but agreed to consider Christ and to come to a Cru Bible study.
