Students Arrive, Cru Staff Welcome

survey

One way Cru meets students is through questionnaires. These can quickly identify students interested in Jesus.

College students around the world are settling into new dorm rooms and adjusting to new classes, trying to make friends and find their way. Cru teams helped them move in, lugging refrigerators and stacks of clothing up flights of stairs.

This is not the time for our field staff to be hassling with ministry finances and struggling through forms. And they are not! Nate and others who work behind the scenes are freeing them up so they can be on campus with students.

Here is some of what is happening on campuses around the US:

Justin returned to Morehead State University (Kentucky) for his senior year. In his previous years at school, he knew all the proper Christian words. However, this summer, while helping with a Cru mission trip to reach athletes in New Zealand, he realized he was looking for satisfaction in his pursuit of coaching. After coming to this realization, he surrendered His life to Jesus.

Justin returned to campus finding satisfaction in knowing Jesus. His desire is to have an impact on the Morehead basketball team. His words now match his actions.

On South Carolina campuses, students are considering joining Cru small groups. One freshman said: “I’ve seen what the other guys on my hall are getting into, and I don’t want that to be me. I want to stay close to God in college, and I know the decisions I make at the beginning of the year are important.”

In Ohio, a Cru staff member met Cody. He was raised in church, but left as a teen when he got “fed up.” As they talked, despite his background, it was clear that Cody’s heart was open. “… I want to trust people again, and I want to trust God,” Cody said. He wasn’t ready to trust Jesus yet, but agreed to consider Christ and to come to a Cru Bible study.

Partnering to build leaders

2016 YLG16 Audience

Young leaders gather from over 140 countries.

Partnership, encouragement, equipping for ministry…

Cru seeks to make Jesus known throughout the world, partnering with and encouraging any ministry that is seeking to do the same. One such ministry is the Lausanne Movement.

The Lausanne Movement, founded by Billy Graham, mobilizes global evangelical leaders to collaborate for world evangelization. The vision is “the whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world”. My team at Cru provides financial accounting for this ministry even though it is not a part of Cru.

Recently, two of my teammates were in Jakarta, Indonesia to help with the finances of the Lausanne Movement’s Young Leader’s Gathering (YLG).

This conference occurs once every 10 years. Participants are 25 to 35 years old, must be nominated before they can apply to attend and are mentored for ten years after the conference.

With speakers like Ravi Zacharias, David Platt, Os Guinness and many others, YLG develops and encourages young evangelists around the world.

Participants said,

“Connecting with others allows us to feel that we are not alone.”

“When I came I was tired, but connecting with people reenergized me to go and fulfill my mission.”

“I’m so excited to see how God has brought together His people to fulfill the Great Commission!”

You are part of raising up a new generation of world Christian leaders through Cru and also through other ministries!

From the Smokies to Mongolia

Training

Students learn about cross-cultural ministry.

This time of year students are around the U.S. and world on summer mission trips with Cru. They are growing in their own walks with Jesus and being equipped to share the gospel as a way of life.

In Gatlinburg, TN, 36 students are working and living alongside more than 1000 international students who’ve come to the Smokey Mountains to work for the summer.

Cru is hosting “cultural exchange parties” in Gatlinburg this summer. Over 70 international students from countries like Thailand, Serbia, Mongolia and Russia have come to each party.

One young woman from Mongolia said she wants to know Jesus more! She met with the Cru students to watch the Jesus Film in Mongolian.

We are also encouraged by the things Cru students have learned:

“[God’s] been showing me that there are these parts of my life that I haven’t given over to Him yet.”

“I’ve been learning so much during our individual Bible Study time.”

“I didn’t realize just how God wants me to rely on Him.”

We are so grateful to be working behind the scenes to make things like this possible. Thank you for joining us! Together we are playing a part in reaching the nations!
